Somato Emotional Release
The body may often retain the emotional imprint of a past physical trauma. These imprints may inhibit the body's natural healing process, which can be a part of the reason for chronic physical or emotional issues. Somato emotional release can provide a supportive environmant for a client to explore somatic (body) memories, and can help to rid the mind and body of residual effects of trauma.

What is somato-emotional release?
Somato-emotional release is a form of bodywork that provided a safe and supportive environment for a person to explore somatic (body) memories or emotions that the body is holding on to. Often this memory or emotion is preventing them from healing from a past injury or trauma, be it physical or emotional.

How does it work?
A safe and sacred space is created for the client specifically with the intention of allowing the body to let go of any emotions or cellular memories that the body does not need anymore. Through the use of gentle touch, the practitioner facilitates the client to dialogue with their body to recognize what their body wants the client to be aware of. Once the body has “been heard”, the stored memory or emotion can be released from the body, allowing for the healing process to move forward.

What are the benefits?
Release unwanted or unneeded memories or emotions
Allow the body to move forward in the healing process
Healing from unresolved issues
Improve the progress of other therapies, such as professional counseling or other bodywork

What happens in a somato-emotional release session?
The client is asked to “look and see” if there is any area of the body that wants attention or feels different than the rest of the body. Light touch is applied to the body and the client is facilitated in exploring what memory or emotion the body is holding in that area.

The client is then supported in determining what action the client can do, that will allow the body to let go of the stored memory or emotion. This process is gentle and compassionate, respecting that traumatic memories do not need to be relived in order to heal form them. Through this emotional release the body is then able to focus its resources on healing, creating mental and emotional clarity, and a stronger sense of well being.

How much is needed?
A single session can provide much relief and allow the client to feel more peaceful and centered. Depending on the client’s goals, the client may want to receive a series of sessions to help resolve complex or interrelated issues. Somato-emotional release is very beneficial for those who are involved in professional counseling, however it is not a substitute for professional counseling.
